Ijebu

Ojude Oba festival is a yearly cultural-cum-entertainment event that rallies all sons and daughters of the town as well as visitors in a rare funfair. Though it has over the years grown into a major social activity for all and sundry, the festival started about a century ago as a purely religious event when the jebus imbibed Islam as a way of life. It started formally when the first chief Imam of ljebuland and the Muslim Ulamas visited the then Awujale on Sallah day to thank him for his hospitality and also to pray for him (the Oba) and the city. Besides, the period coincided with the time when the ljebu Balogun Eleshins (war leaders) who were said to have won all the inter-tribal wars in the past, openly come to display their talents in horse riding. Usually the horses are made to dance and perform other acrobatic displays in the presence of the Oba, other traditional rulers and guests.
